Why Hope Triumphs Over Power

———

Power. A thing many appear to value too highly in my honest opinion. Too many beings in this world see it as the sole device for protection, safety, and prosperity. The problem there is that throughout my life, I have seen many powerful beings fall in the face of those without much power at all. What these beings did have though, was a good heart, and a will like no other to see a smile grace someone’s face. They focused on everyday deeds that may seem small to those with power, but in truth they set in motion a wave of strength greater than any power any being could ever possess: Hope.

Hope that something broken might be remade. Hope that something dark and dreary, may become bright and joyous. Hope that no matter the evils in the world, nor how great and daunting they may be, that good can still triumph. That is what keeps me going, and it is what I believe keeps many others moving forward as well.

Power may give you the strength to be judge, jury, and executioner. It may bring a perceived end to limitations. Power can even grant you the very world. But Hope? Hope is the thing that can give you the strength to understand, forgive, and repair something broken. It allows you to have limitations but not be daunted or held down by them. Hope helps you see that the world is for all to have, as well as the ability to live without having control of everything around you.

The greatest thing anyone can ever have is hope. For in the face of great power, hope will always have the possibility to overcome it. All through simple acts of love and generosity; moments of kindness and care. The more you lift up others, the higher you will as a whole.

So, I implore you to not seek out power in your life. Instead, willingly give yourself to the world in these small, seemingly unimportant ways. Through these acts, you will inspire others to hope, and through them you will witness something within the world that no power could ever bring about.

“I’ve found that its the small things, every day deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay.”
